Active Release Technique®, is a proven patented chiropractic movement based soft tissue technique to release trapped nerves and blood vessels, or to remove adhesions and fibrosis. A certified ART® provider uses his or her hands to detect and assess restrictions in such soft tissues as muscles, nerves, tendons and ligaments. The Core offers ART® together with evidence-based chiropractic, registered massage therapy, physiotherapy, and medical acupuncture as part of our commitment to holistic health care for sports injury rehabilitation, sports therapy and injury prevention.
ART® can be highly effective in the treatment of:
Low Back Pain
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
Ligamentous Knee Conditions
Lateral & Medial Epicondylitis (tennis & golfers elbow)
How can I benefit from ART®?
When a muscle, ligament or tendon is injured, either through direct trauma or with overuse, the body naturally forms scar tissue or adhesions to bind the injured tissue. As the scar tissue builds up and becomes more dense it often binds to surrounding structures, resulting in limited mobility, decreased muscle strength and pain. Although the body can tolerate and adapt to a certain amount of scar tissue it is unable to naturally reduce scar tissue and therefore treatment is required.
At the Core, an ART® provider will evaluate the patient and identify the soft tissue that has been injured and where the scar tissue has formed. The treatment involves a combination of direct pressure and specific guided movement patterns of the patient.
